Who is Paskie?
I am Paskie Rokus, born in 1953 in Arnhem. I have been painting since I was fourteen, and started selling my work when I was eighteen. Although I studied Dutch and History at the VU in Amsterdam, my true passion has always been painting.

At 71, I still paint professionally.

Style and development
My work began in the surrealist style of Dalí, but quickly evolved into a looser, more expressive abstract work. I work with various techniques and have a preference for large canvases.

My abstract paintings combine dynamic lines, subtle drawings and my own texts, resulting in energetic, expressive works. Symbolism often comes back in organic and geometric shapes, and the colours are often bright and optimistic.

In addition to my free work, I also paint on commission, where the style, colours and dimensions are determined in consultation with the client.

Inspiration
My inspiration comes from various art forms: from literature and music to film, theatre and painting. I have always been fascinated by art in all its forms. Painters who inspire me include Dalí, Gubbels, de Chirico, Picasso and Kandinsky.

My choice of music varies from classical composers such as Wagner and Brahms to contemporary artists such as Ibrahim Maalouf and Spinvis.
